Abstract

977,575. Bearings. SOC. RATEAU. March 4, 1963 [Jan. 19, 1963], No. 8464/63. Heading F2A. In a fluid bearing having a number of slippers equi-angularly disposed around a shaft, each slipper is divided into a number of elements mounted on balancing means which balance the loads on the elements and transfer these loads to a single fixed point of articulation for the slipper. In an embodiment, the slippers 1 are each divided into elements 1a and 1b and each element is mounted on a pin 12 carried by a yoke 7. The latter is pivotally connected by a pin 8 to a member 9 which, having an integral pin 11, pivots in a socket 10 of a housing 3. In a modification as shown in Fig. 4, the slipper comprises four elements la, 1b 1c and 1d; secondary yokes are mounted at each end of the main yoke 7 and each secondary yoke carries two elements.
