Class. 123(2) A boiler, for generating steam for horticultural purposes, comprises a cylindrical firebox 13 which is mounted by brackets 12 on a base frame 10, is partly surrounded by a water jacket 16, and has, in its rear wall 17, a combustion gas outlet 18 leading to a flue accommodating an upwardly, inclined bank of water tubes 21. A transverse baffle 24, mounted on one of the refractory-lined walls 23 of the flue, directs the combustion gases through the tube bank 21 to emerge through an aperture 25 leading to a chimney 26. An upward continuation of the rear wall 17 of the firebox constitutes an inlet header 20 for the tube bank 21 the outlet header 22 of which communicates, through pipes 27 and baffle plates 29, with a steam and water drum 28 having, at its front end, a pressure gauge 32, a feed water inlet 31, and a water gauge, Fig. 2 not shown. A safety valve 34, and a steam offtake connection 35 incorporating a steam valve 36, are mounted in the top of the drum 28. A blow-down valve connection 38 is provided at the lower front end of the water jacket 16. The front wall 14 of the firebox, lined with refractory material, has an aperture 15 to receive oil firing equipment, not shown; alternatively a firebox of rectangular cross-section, with an open bottom to accommodate a chain grate semi-automatic stoker, may be employed. A self-contained package of auxiliaries, e.g. a feed water tank, a feedwater pump and motor, not shown, are mounted in the space 11 beneath the flue which is supportedat its rear end by a strut 39. The front and rear ends of the drum 28 are supported by the tubes 37, 27 respectively, the intermediate part being supported from the front, end of the flue by a bracket 40.
