Class 123(2) In a bottom-supported, two-drum water tube boiler having a furnace 10 lined with generating tubes and fired by a chain grate stoker 35 which is disposed at a level below that of the lower drum 30 and wherein gases flow laterally from the furnace into a pass 20 locating spaced banks 32, 34 of boiler tubes connecting the lower drum with the upper drum 28, relative movements due to thermal expansion between different pressure parts of the boiler are minimized by arranging for bottom supports for the parts at substantially the same level. Thus the lining tubes of the furnace front and side walls 12, 16 are supported by their respective lower headers 42, 48, the header 42 bridging the front ends of the side headers 48 which rest on columns 68 whilst the part made up of the drums 30, 28 and the tube banks 32, 34 is supported by upright tubes 60 spaced along the length of the drum 30 and connecting it to the rear wall header 58 which is disposed at about the same level as the headers 48 and which rests on columns 62. The tubes 60 also serve as downcomer tubes supplying water to the header 58. From this header generating tubes rise to line the rear furnace wall 14 and are thereabove arranged to form a screen across the gas outlet ahead of the tube bank 32.
