865,424. Drawing wire. DRAHLZIAHMASCHINENWERK VEB. Oct. 21, 1957, No. 32846/57. Class 83 (4). In a wire drawing machine in which wire is drawn by successive drawing discs through successive dies, the discs are driven through infinitely variable transmissions which are connected in series and which are varied in dependence on the wire tension. A polyphase motor 1 drives, through change-speed gearing 2, a shaft 3 which in turn, through bevel gears 4, 5, drives a main shaft 13. The shaft 13 drives through one infinitely variable transmission 17 a shaft 14 which in turn through another transmission 17 drives a shaft 15. The shaft 13 also drives through another transmission 17 a shaft 12 driving in turn through another transmission 17 a shaft 11. Each infinitely variable transmission 17 is operated by an electric motor 18 to vary the transmission ratio, controlled by movement of a tension roller 25 over which the wire passes. Each shaft 11-15 drives, through gearing 19, 20, a drawing disc 6-10 which draws wire through a preceding die 23.
