Abstract

751,616. Variable speed gearing. NEDERLANDSE GROSSMANN MAATSCHAPPIJ, N. V. Jan. 22, 1954, No. 2058/54. Class 80(2) A continuously variable ratio transmission, particularly for grinding and buffing machines, lathes and the like, comprises driving means, a continuously variable ratio gear and an intermediate change ratio gear between the driving means and the continuously variable ratio gear, the intermediate gear having two alternative ratios selected automatically according to the direction of rotation of the driving means. A reversible electric motor 1 drives a shaft 5 either through meshing gears 3, 6 and a freewheel 9 or through belt gearing 4 7 and an oppositely directed freewheel 10, according to its direction of rotation; the ratio of the toothed gearing 3, 6 is different from that of the belt gearing 4, 7. Expanding pulleys 11, 12 transmit the drive from the shaft 5 to a final driven shaft 13.
