Abstract
864,956. Latch fastenings. FINGSCHELDT G.m.b.H., F. July 15, 1958, No. 22605/58. Class 44. A latch for refrigerating cabinets, chests and the like, has a two-armed forked latch bolt 7, is rocked by means of a connecting element 9 which is pivoted to it, carries a power storagespring 13 rocks about a fixed pivot 15 and is in engagement with a two-armed operating lever 2, the shorter arm of the lever 2 bears against the connecting element and acts as a push bar in such manner that when the operating lever is operated, the connecting element is displaced about its fixed pivot in opposition to the action of the spring so that the pivot 10 between the connecting element and the latch bolt is moved from an upper position beyond dead centre (fastening position) to a lower position beyond dead centre (unfastening position). The latch bolt is bifurcated and is pivoted by means of a pin 6 to a U-shaped sheet metal part 5 attached to a base plate 1. The connecting element 9 is of frame-like construction to house the spring 13. The spring 13 engages the connecting element at one end and its other end engages a slide 14 which is slidably connected to the element 9. The element 9 is mounted on the pivot 15 by means of a slot 16 and it is engaged by a rod 11 carried by the lever 2. The lever 2 is of U-shape and it is pivoted to the base-plate 1 by pins 3. When the lever 2 is pulled the rod 11 moves the connecting element which in turn rocks the latch bolt so that it becomes disengaged from a keeper 8. One limb of the actuating lever can be provided with a cylinder lock 17 the bolt of which engages a hole in a flange of the base-plate to prevent movement of the actuating lever.
