Abstract

786,511. Valve-actuating mechanism. AUDLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1956 [Jan. 27, 1955], No. 2454/55. Class 135. Valve-actuating mechanism comprises a pair of relatively slidable and angularly movable lever parts a, b which can be locked together to form a simple lever or can be unlocked so that one of the lever parts co-operates with a notched member to give a compound lever action. In Fig. 1, the lever part a is secured to the spindle c of the valve closure member and has a slot d to accommodate a pivot pin e which interconnects the two lever parts and is secured to the lever part b which is actuated by hand. The part b has two holes for engagement by a locking pin f. As shown, the two lever parts a, bare interlocked for, operation as a simple lever. If the pin f is withdrawn from the hole g, and a pin i secured to the inner end of the part b is moved into engagement with one of the notches j on a segmental or circular plate k secured to the valve casing a compound lever action may be obtained. If the pin f is then inserted in the hole h the valve closure member is locked against movement. In a modification, the slot d is formed in a bracket fixed to the valve casing and the lever part a is formed as a notched circular or segmental plate with a series of holes for selective engagement by a locking pin which also engages a hole in the lever part b.
