Abstract

783,191. Hasp fastenings. WILKES BERGER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Feb. 23, 1956 [Nov. 24, 1954], No. 34089/54. Class 44 A catch, incorporating a toggle mechanism, comprises a link 24 mounted on an operating lever 19 and engaging a fixed member 11, the link being frictionally pivoted to the operating lever so that movement of the lever produces a corresponding movement of the link. In the preferred embodiment, the sides 20 of the operating lever 19 are pivoted 18 to lugs 17 projecting from the base plate 12. The sides 26 of the link 24 straddle the sides 20 of the operating lever and are attached thereto by the pivot 27 which frictionally grips the link and the lever so that movement of the lever results in a corresponding movement of the link. The hooked end 25 of the link engages the inclined surface 16 of the member 11 and is locked in position by movement of the operating lever into an over dead centre position. A spring 22 passes between the pivot 18 and the upturned end 23 of the plate 12 and is clamped by the curled end 21 of the lever 19 so as to urge the lever downwards into the locked position. In another embodiment the plate 12 and the base of the member 11 are extended to engage the edges of the lever 19 and the link 24 respectively when in the locked position, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown).
