Abstract

1461697 Toggle fastening mechanism; clamps BLOXWICH LOCK & STAMPING CO Ltd 13 Feb 1975 [15 Feb 1974] 6919/74 Headings E2A and E2B In a toggle fastening mechanism for securing together two relatively movable members 1, 2, an elongate handle 19 is carried by the member 1, for example, has a hook 20 for engagement with an abutment 7 of a keeper 5 which is mounted on the member 2, and is coupled by a throw-over linkage 16 to a bolt 9, the latter being slidably mounted on the member 1 and, having a nose 10, being urged into a recess 8 in the keeper 5 by movement of the handle into a closed position. The handle has a finger-piece 21 and has a slot 22 to fit over an upstanding plate 23 of the member 1. The plate is apertured and may be secured to an abutment 25 by a lock 24. The linkage 16 is pivotally connected to the handle 19 by a pin 18 and to the bolt 9 by a pin 17. The bolt 9 is slidably mounted on rivets 11 which pass through spaced slots 12 in the bolt, and is urged away from the keeper 5 by springs 13 which are located between a lug 14 on the bolt and an abutment 15 on the member 1. To effect release of the fastening mechanism the finger-piece 21 is used to draw the handle away from the member 1 to break the toggle formed by the handle and the link 16, and the spring-loading of the bolt retracts the bolt from the keeper, and completes the movement of the handle so that it can be disengaged from the keeper.
