Abstract
863,293. Thermionic valves. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Dec. 31, 1959 [Jan. 15, 1959], No. 1477/59. Addition to 838,099. Class 39(1). A cathode sleeve 1 is supported by a ring 5 formed in a cathode lead and encircling an end portion of the sleeve, the cross-sectional shape of this end portion having been elastically deformed due to its original shape differing from the shape of the aperture in the ring 5. As shown, the oval ring 5 is integral with a cathode lead 3 having a cranked shape so that the ring is coaxial with the portion or the lead sealed through the glass base 4. The sleeve 1 is formed with tag 2 by which it is electrically connected to the lead 3. The inner surface of the ring 5 is formed with a knife edge which only contacts the sleeve 1 at two or a few points. A notch may be provided in the sleeve 1 at the zone of contact to obtain axial location of the sleeve in the ring. The cathode sleeve may be of a tungstennickel alloy having a tungsten content of 35 to 40%, and may have a wall thickness of 0.0005 inch and a diameter of 0.04 inch.
