Abstract

860,616. Reciprocating pumps. TAYLOR, R. W. Jan. 21, 1959 [Jan. 14, 1958], No. 1291/58. Class 102(1). A connecting rod 7 is connected to a pump piston 4 by a ball-and-socket joint, the ball 6 on the rod having a pin 5 passing therethrough at an angle and engaging in sliding blocks in the socket so that at the top and bottom dead centre positions the piston is caused to rotate from one end of an arc of movement to the other so that inlet and outlet ports 2, 3 are alternately brought into communication with the pump chamber 13 by way of passages 8, 12 in the piston. The pump is stated to be particularly suitable for pumping viscous liquids with minerals in suspension.
