Abstract

659,301. Fuel-injection pumps. SCORZONI, R. Jan. 14, 1949, No. 1145. [Class 102(i)] In a fuel-injection pump, the piston is provided with a number of control recesses 12, 12' that are bounded by inclined edges 3, 3' and communicate through grooves 10, 10<SP>1</SP> with the pumping space. The cylinder has a similar number of control ports 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, all except one being sealed, e.g. by screwed plug 11, so that one recess and one port co-operate at one time. When wear has occurred, the port can be sealed and another brought into operation. In a modification, one port is provided in the cylinder and the piston is rotated to bring another recess into operation with it. The recesses may communicate with the pumping space through diametral and axial bores and the lower edge of the recess may be inclined.
