Abstract

An asphaltic bitumen/mineral aggregate mixture is produced by adding an unheated powdered mixture of a high melting bitumen (softening point 85 DEG C. minimum) and a filler to a mineral aggregate such as sand and gravel which is heated above the softening point of the bitumen and then mixing to form a bituminous coated aggregate. In an example a ground mixture of 35% bitumen to 65% filler is added to sand and gravel heated to 250 DEG C.
