Abstract
A non-cementitious filler for asphaltic bitumen, of use e.g in road making, consists of tuff-ash or volcanic trass mixed with 1-35 per cent., preferably 10-15 per cent., by weight of filler, of a calcareous material such as slaked lime or carbonate of lime. The filler is preferably ground such that 80 per cent. passes sieve mesh openings of 0,0029 inch and is mixed with the bitumen and also, if required, broken stones, or gravel and sand. In bitumen-filler mixes the proportion by weight of bitumen is between 22 and 32 per cent.
