Abstract
858,948. Fuel atomisers. DOWTY FUEL SYSTEMS Ltd. Sept. 17,1958 [Sept. 17, 1957], No. 29273/57. Class 75(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A nozzle 2 to which liquid fuel is fed from a main fuel supply connection 14 to a swirl chamber 11 adjacent a spray outlet orifice 12, has an augmented fuel supply connection 15 which leads to a supply passage 16 axially feeding the chamber, and a pressure-sensitive valve 1 connects the main supply to the augmenting supply when the pressure of the former exceeds a predetermined value. Thus an augmenting flow at reduced pressure enters the swirl chamber axially and is swirled by the swirling fuel in the chamber, and the total flow leaves the outlet orifice as a conical spray. The main supply is fed to the valve at 34 and when the supply pressure is below a predetermined value the whole flow passes from an outlet 35 and through a line 37 to the connection 14 ; when the predetermined pressure is exceeded a valve member 28 is forced upwardly against a spring 29, and some of the supply fuel flows through a bore 31 at a reduced pressure to an outlet 36 and through a line 38 to the connection 15. From the connection 14 fuel flows between the parts 3 and 6 to slots leading tangentially into the swirl chamber 11 in a disc 9. As shown, the valve is used to feed a number of such nozzles.
