Claims priority, application France June 26, 1950 1 Claim. (Cl; 299140) This invention relates to burners for liquid fuels, of the kind wherein the liquid fuel is forced out of an annular outlet in a diverging stream and is atomized by atomizing fluid directed against the emerging fuel stream, its object being to provide an improved construction permitting variation of the divergence of the fuel stream.
According to the present invention, a liquid fuel burner comprises an outer tube having at one end an outlet aperture a first inner tube arranged within the outer tube and forming therewith a feeding passage for a first stream of atomizing fluid, the end of the first inner tube defining with the end of the outer tube an annular outlet for said first stream, a second inner tube arranged within the first inner tube and forming therewith a feeding passage for a stream of liquid fuel, the end of the second inner tube defining with the end of the first inner tube a divergent annular outlet for the liquid fuel, the bore of the second inner tube serving as a feeding passage for a second stream of atomizing fluid, and an end plate carried at the end of the second inner tube and defining therewith an annular outlet for the second stream of atomizing fluid in communication with the bore of the second inner tube, the annular outlets for the first and second atomizing streams being arranged to cause the said streams to converge upon the same part of the fuel stream.
An example of construction of burner according to the invention is hereinafter particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing, which is a vertical central section.
In this drawing, the burner has an outer tube 1 with a liner 2 within which is arranged a first inner tube 3 defining a passage 4 for a first stream of atomizing fluid and an outlet aperture 5. Within the first inner tube 3 is a second inner tube 6 defining withthe former a passage 7 for liquid fuel and a divergent outlet 8 therefor. Mounted within the second inner tube 6 is a stem 9 for an end plate 10 defining with the second inner tube 6 a passage 11 for a second stream of atomizing fluid and an outlet 12 therefon The supplies to the first and "ice second streams of atomizing fluid are so arranged that when the pressure of one is highest the pressure of the other is lowest and vice versa. When the pressure of the stream issuing from the outlet 5 is a maximum and that from the outlet 12 a minimum, the divergence of the stream of fuel issuing from the outlet 8, and therefore that of the flame also, is a minimum. Conversely, when the pressure for outlet 5 is a minimum and that for outlet 12 is a maximum, the divergence of the flame is maximum. Outlet 5 is arranged to direct the first stream of atomizing fluid parallel to the axis of the burner, whilst outlet 12 is arranged to direct the second stream of atomizing fluid radially. The atomizing fluid is fed through an inner and an outer concentric passage 13 and 14, whilst the fuel passes through an intermediate passage 15.
I claim:
A burner for liquid fuels comprising an outer tube 4 having at one end an outlet aperture, a first inner tube arranged within the outer tube and forming therewith a feeding passage for a first stream of atomizing fluid, the end of the first inner tube defining with the end of the outer tube an annular outlet for said first stream, a second inner tube arranged within the first inner tube and forming therewith a feeding passage for a stream of liquid fuel, the end of the second inner tube defining with the end of the first inner tube a divergent annular outlet for the liquid fuel, the bore of the second inner tube serving as a feeding passage for a second stream of atomizing fluid, and an end plate carried at the end of the second inner tube and defining therewith an annular outlet for the second stream of atomizing fluid in communication with the bore of the second inner tube, the annular outlets for the first and second atomizing streams being arranged to cause the said streams to converge upon the same part of the fuel stream.
