Abstract

857,275. Microphones. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Oct. 16, 1958, No. 33008/58. Class 40 (4). A carbon-granule chamber is defined by a movable dome-shaped front electrode 10, a fixed shell-type back electrode 7 formed from thin metallic sheet, and one or more flat insulating washers 6 which close the opening between the respective peripheries of the two electrodes. The washers 6 may be of silk or plastic, while the electrodes are of carbonized nickel or gold-plated brass, carbonized or plated at least on their granule-contacting surfaces. Parts of these surfaces may be masked to reduce the conducting area. An acoustic resistance washer 28 may be of silk or plastic or material of the type described in Specification 819,146. A plastic membrane 25 protects the diaphragm 23. Terminal 21 is connected to the front electrode 10 by way of metal disc 19, casing 1, and diaphragm 23. Specification 613,552 also is referred to.
