Abstract

857,221. Lathes. ELLIOTT & CO. Ltd., B. March 20, 1957 [Feb. 28, 1956; Feb. 28, 1956], Nos. 6153/56 and 6609/56. Class 83 (3). A wood turning lathe comprises a substantially horizontal tube or bar 2 vertically adjustable on a fixed pillar 4 and carrying a headstock, tool rest and tailstock. The pillar 4 is clamped by a screw 11 in a base 12 mounted on a bench 5. A split sleeve 7 can be clamped in any position on the pillar and is integral with a split sleeve 8 in which the tube 2 can be clamped in any position by the lever 10. The headstock consists of a driving centre 15 on a hand-drill 14 mounted on the tube 2 by a split sleeve 13. The tool rest 6 on a post 20 is clamped in a portion 22 depending from a split sleeve 23. In a modification, the pillar 25, Fig. 6, is carried in a pedestal 31 and carries the tailstock 32 in a split sleeve 34, as well as the tube 24. The tool-rest 42 is detachably carried on a cranked arm 48 in a split bush 45. A supporting foot 51 may be clamped in the split sleeve 39 which secures the headstock 38 to the tube 24.
