Abstract

978,434. Steady rests. H. A. WALDRICH G.m.b.H. March 23, 1961 [April 16, 1960], No. 10766/61. Heading B3T. A work steady, which is capable of small lateral movements to allow for lack of trueness in the rotating work, comprises a base 5 adapted to slide along the base of a lathe or like machine and a transversely adjustable support or lower part 10 which may be clamped in adjusted position. The adjustable steady elements 15, 16, 17 are carried by an upper part 14 rockable about a pivot 20 relative to the support 10. Guides 23, 24, ensure that there is no relative axial movement between the upper and lower parts. The steady element 17 is provided on a bracket 27 clamped to the member 14. In a modification the steady is in the form of a half-bearing supported beneath the work on anti-friction bearings for limited transome float and virtually adjustable by a wedge arrangement.
