[Also in Group XXIII] A combination woodworking-machine comprises two horizontal tubular members 10 supported by adjustable clamps 13, 14 on two pairs of tubular legs 11, 12, a rotary planing cutter 15 on a spindle 17 supported by bearings 18, 19 on the members 10, a pair of separatelyadjustable planing tables 16, and a driving motor 22 connected through a stepped pulley or variable-speed gear-box to the spindle, the opposite exposed ends of the spindle being screw-threaded, one right-hand and one lefthand, for the attachment of other tools for drilling &c., either directly or through a chuck, or through a flexible shaft. The tables 16 have inclined legs 25 fitting in guides 26 in the clamp 13 and in guides 27 in a separate adjustable clamp 28, and are raised or lowered by screws 29; in their highest position the tables meet to form a guard over the planing cutter. Two guides 55 in housings depending from the clamp 13 to project on one or other side of the machine, slidably carry another table 53 and may be supported by legs 70. The table 53 is traversible on a platform 63 by a graduated hand wheel and a screw and nut 61, 64, and a lever 66 and rod 69 can adjust the platform 63 vertically in a slide 54 adjustable along the guides 55 by a rack 56 and a pinion operated by a handle 59 on a shaft 58. A bracket 72, Fig. 7, mounted on the guides 55, may have a plain bearing bush for supporting a lathe spindle nose in place of the rotary mortising-bit 71, the spindle carrying a face-plate or a prong centre, and a similar bracket may be spaced from the bracket 72 on the guides to take a solid adjustable centre or a hollow centre for long-hole drilling, and a tool-rest may be vertically and horizontally adjustable on guides 55.
