Abstract

856,605. Linear-dimension gauges. ABTUS Ltd. June 29, 1959, No. 22215/59. Addition to 750,204. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXX]. In a modification of the meter described in the parent Specification, for measuring the depression of railway sleepers when rolling stock passes over the tracks, the second pointer is dispensed with and the graduated scale plate is frictionally pivoted about the same axis as the double-arm lever. The instrument is mounted on a tripod base 10 and a strap 17 forms a guide for and limits the movement of the scale plate 16. Lugs 19 on the scale plate act as abutments for the pointer end 15 of the double-arm lever which is frictionally held in position by a spring and nut 20. In use the end 14 of the lever is brought into contact with the rail base and the scale is pivoted until the pointer reads zero thereon. When the rail is depressed the pointer moves to a scale position which is a function of the rail depression and remains in that position. Specification 681,075 also is referred to.
