Abstract

1, 070, 904. Weighing-apparatus. HOLLANDS & BLAIR Ltd. March 31, 1964 [April 11, 1963], No. 14564/63. Heading G1W. A platform weighing scale has its weighing mechanism mounted on a rigid metal strip 1 much wider than it is thick and firmly secured along one edge to a sheet metal base 15 by lugs 1A riveted therein. The platform is depressed when a load is placed thereon and this movement is transmitted to levers which load the spring 5 to a balance position, moving a plate 13 with lug 12 down, permitting spring 8 to draw a rack 3 longitudinally as far as permitted by a bell crank lever 2, pivoted to the rack 3 and a fixed bridge 14 and engaging the lug 12. The rack 3 engages a pinion 10 to turn a dial 9. To keep the rack 3 at right angles to the pinion and in mesh therewith, the rack is kept parallel with the base either by providing it with a suitably shaped cam track 18 engaging a pin 19 extending from the strip 1 or by providing an arm 7 pivoted to the strip 1 and rack 3 to form a parallelogram with an arm of the bell crank lever 2. A spring 6 on a pin 16 on the strip 1 has one end anchored in a hole 17 in the strip 1 while the other end engages a lug on the rack to damp movement upon sudden release of load.
