Abstract

878,328. Micrometer gauges. GERMANN, W. Sept. 24, 1958 [Oct. 7, 1957], No. 30501/58. Class 106 (2). A micrometer comprises a body 1 carrying a movable measuring rod and a stop 4, the stop 4 being secured to the body in a removable and interchangeable manner by means of a tightening rod 6 located parallel to the rod 2, each stop 4 having a slot 14 for rapid engagement and disengagement of the tightening rod 6 by transverse movement thereof in the slot 14, the tightening rod being subjected to the action of spring 9 which tends to maintain the stop 4 pressed against the body 1; and a nut 8 screwed on to the rod 6 to enable the stop 4 to be locked on the body 1. The slot 14 enables the stop 4 to be slid on to the tightening rod 6, the end 7 of which engages in a groove 15 when the nut 8 is tightened against the spring 9. A second groove 16 allows the stop 4 to be reversed for use of a different measuring face 4<SP>1</SP>. The stop 4 may also be held fixed in one of a number of angular positions by means of a spring-urged ball (mounted in the body 1) which engages one of a number of depressions in the face of the stop 4. Various different forms of removable stop are also described.
