[Class 132 (ii).] Golf-practising apparatus comprises a pair of balls carried on the arms of a lever mounted on a spindle to form a balanced rotary system, the spindle having a worm engaging a worm wheel which is arranged to drive through a geared train a pointer round an indicator dial graduated in yards, and means for resetting the pointer to its normal or zero position. As shown in Fig. 4, the apparatus comprises a wooden platform at one end of which is mounted a rotary system of balls comprising two golf balls 3 at the ends of a lever 4 carried on a spindle 5 journalled in bearings 6 secured to a plate 7 fitted in the platform. The spindle 5 is coupled at 10 to a spindle 11 having a worm 12 engaging a worm wheel geared to a spindle which carries a pointer co-operating with a dial graduated in yards. Alternatively the worm wheel may rotate a movable dial past a fixed pointer. Means for returning the pointer to zero comprises a cam 27, Figs. 6 and 9 having a sleeve carrying the pointer. A spring fork 29 is secured at 30 to the cam ii such manner that one arm engages the exterior of sleeve 28 while the other arm presses against the spindle 26 through a slot in the sleeve This constitutes friction drive for the pointer Pivoted at 31 is a lever 32 urged by the spring 33 against a stop 34 to hold the projectior 35 clear of the cam 27. A foot-operated pushbutton 36, Fig. 7, having a coned foot 38 is adapted when depressed against the spring 37 to engage the toe 35 with the cam 27 which is rotated until the toe enters the recess in the cam and brings the pointer to zero. The balls 3 are detachably connected to screwed studs on the ends of the lever 4 by embedded threaded metal ferrules having serrated flanges.
