Abstract

366,260. Testing vehicle brakes dynamometrically. RUSSELL, E., Brent Knoll, Duffield Road, Derby. Jan. 17, 1931, No. 1586. [Class 106 (ii).] Comprises a construction of device for applying by hand an effort to a roller on which the braked wheel is rested and means for measuring such effort. A flat cylindrical casing a has a radial extension b housing a plunger e. A handle may be screwed into the opening b<1> while the end of the part b is closed by a screwed plug c between which and a shoulder el on the plunger is a spring d. A set screw e2 protrudes through a slot and engages the end of a pointer moving over a quadrant. The inner end of the plunger engages either directly or by means of a roller j the cam i mounted on a shaft k carried in bearings in the casing. The shaft k suitably drives the roller on which the braked wheel is mounted. On applying torque to the roller the plunger is depressed and the pointer moved thus indicating the effort applied. Two pointers arc provided held by spring washers in any position to which they are moved. One may be set to a desired position before a test.
