Abstract

930,126. indicating-apparatus. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. Feb. 5, 1962 [Feb. 3, 1961], No. 4256/61. Class 106 (4). Indicating-apparatus comprises a scale 2 extending over about 700 degrees (between 360 and 720 degrees) subdivided into outer and inner parts 3, 4 and arranged so that the part from which readings should be taken changes as the quantity to be indicated passes through an intermediate value, a pointer in two parts 6, 7, the part 6 being long enough only to register with the inner scale part 4 and the part 7 long enough to register with the outer scale part 3, a spring 15 acting in the absence of any other constraint to hold the parts 6, 7 of the pointer together, a stop to prevent the longer part 7 moving beyond the intermediate value and a screen 18 for obscuring the outer end of the part 7 while it is prevented from rotating by the stop. The scale marks, shorter part 6 of the pointer and outer end of the longer part 7 contrast in colour with the face of the apparatus, screen 18 and remainder of the longer part 7 of the pointer. The screen 18 may serve as the stop and the part 6 carry a bracket 16, Fig. 2, or a fixed stop 24, Fig. 5, may engage a pin 21 on the shaft carrying the longer part 7, while another pin 20 on this shaft lies in the path of a cranked pin 22 carried by the shaft of the other pointer part 6.
