Abstract

954,266. Indicating-apparatus. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. Feb.15, 1963 [Feb. 19, 1962], No. 6412/62. Heading G1J. A manual control assembly comprises a spindle 1 rotatable by a knob 5, an annular indicator 13 with a radial gap 17 passing through a radial slot 9 in an annular mask 6 so that part of the indicator 13 lies behind the mask 6 and part lies in front where it is visible through a transparent region 16 of the knob 5, rotation of the spindle 1 causing relative rotation between the mask 6 and indicator 13 so that the visible extent of the indicator 13 indicates the displacement of the spindle from a zero position. Preferably the mask 6 is fixed, the indicator 13 is rotatable with the spindle 1 and contrasting colours are used for the mask 6 and indicator 13. The knob 5 is a two-part moulding, the boss 3 being of opaque plastic, the outer parts of transparent .plastic. The indicator 13 is flexible and may be marked with scale graduations for reading against a pointer 10 formed in the mask 6 which is bent towards and away from the front at 12 and 11 respectively.
