Abstract

856,128. Cable drum stands. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 23, 1959, No. 32387/59. Class 99(2). An electric cable drum stand comprises two assemblies A, each carrying a stub axle, with means on each assembly for providing relative motion between the stub axle K and the drum Y in three directions mutually at right angles. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the two assemblies A are slidably mounted on rails B movable towards and away from each other by hydraulic cylinders C. In each assembly a block D is movable vertically by a cylinder E and carries a plate F which is hinged at G and has projecting pins H, engaging under the flanges of the drum. At the top of the plate is a fine control mechanism 5 for providing slight movement about hinge G to bring the stub axle into alignment with the centre hole of the drum. The stub axle is retractable by means of a hand operated screw X. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, the stub axles K are at the ends of cantilever arms B each pivoted at C on a link D. The stub axle K is given an up and down movement by a cylinder L and a fore and aft movement by a cylinder M. The two assemblies are movable along rails G by cylinders J.
