Abstract

821,170. Scaffolding for workmen. EMHART MANUFACTURING CO. March 5, 1957 [March 16, 1956], No. 7243/57. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXX] A platform E for workmen is raised and lowered by booms C, D which are luffed by hydraulic rams each operatively connected to the associated boom by a pair of oppositely acting cables. Boom C is pivoted at 12 (Fig. 5) to a rotary post B and is provided with drums 20, 21 which co-operate with a cable 26, anchored to the boom at 17c and passing over a groove 19 in the movable cylinder 28a of a hydraulic ram 28, and a cable 25, anchored to the ram cylinder at 28b and passing over a guide 30 secured to the boom. Boom D is luffed relative to boom C by a further hydraulic ram 45 (Fig. 8) the movable piston rod 44 of which is provided with an anchor 43 for for cables 40 and a grooved portion 47 which engages a bight in a cable 41. The cables 40, 41 pass around and are anchored to grooved cams 39 which are secured to boom D concentric with the pivot axis 38. The platform E is maintained horizontal by means not shown and is provided with control levers 126 which operate rams 28, 45, and a further, ram 15 which slews the post B. The apparatus is mounted on a lorry.
