Halogenothiophenes are dehalogenated by reacting them with H 2 + Group VIII noble metal catalyst at 20-400‹ C. and 1-100 atm. (gauge). In examples, tetrachloro- and 2,3,4- trichlorothiophenes are dechlorinated to give mainly 2,3,4-tri, and 2,3- and 3,4-dichlorothiophenes, but monochlorothiophene and thiophene and thiophene itself are also formed.
