Abstract
694,188. Load-handling machines. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES. Ltd. Sept. 28, 1951. [Sept. 29, 1950] No. 23903/50. Class 78 (iii). A device for up-ending drums of electric cable 1 comprises an "L" shaped frame 4, 6 pivoted on bearing structures 28 about an axis 26, the vertical plane through which remains at the same side of the centre of gravity A of the loaded frame for all positions thereof. The frame is pivoted about the axis by a crane (not shewn) the rope of which is attached to eyes 32 ; supports 33, 34 being provided to retain the frame in its two positions of adjustment. The support 34 is urged into the vertical position shown by a counterweight 39, but is free to pivot clockwise when engaged by the cross member 15a during movement of the frame to the position in which the drum axis is horizontal, whereafter it returns to the original position and, by engaging the limb 4, supports the frame in its up-ended position. A lever 37 is provided to disengage support 34 from the limb 4 when it is desired to return the frame to the initial position under the control of the crane.
