804,872. Grab forks. SOC. AUXILIAIRE DE L'ENTERPRISE AUXEN. Feb. 19, 1957 [March 15, 1956], No. 5560/57. Class 78 (4). A machine for handling stacked logs includes a supporting fork 1, Fig. 1, to which a closing fork 13 is pivoted about a horizontal axis 11 and which is carried by a horizontal pivot 27 from a yoke 38 turning on a vertical axis 41, 43 about a member 44 pivoted at 61 to the end of a luffing jib 45 and held vertical by a tie 62 (Fig. 7). As illustrated, the fork 1 is formed by a pair of bent channel irons closed by plates 2 and mounted by shoes 6, 7 to slide in a member 8 so that their lateral spacing can be adjusted. The two prongs of the closing fork 13 are joined by angle members 15, 16 and are turned about their pivot 11 by a ram 20. A pair of rams 36 controls the inclination of the supporting fork 1, a ram 51 turns the yoke 38 and the forks about the axis 41, 43 and the jib 45 is luffed by a further ram 60 (Fig. 7). Bottom plates may close the gap between the tines 4 of the supporting fork 1, and side cheeks may also be added to the fork 1. The rams shown may be replaced by rope and drum systems.
