Abstract

757,626. Grabbing machines. CROSS, H. G. Dec. 28, 1953, No. 36007/53. Class 78(4). A grab 10, 11 is pivoted at 17 to brackets 7 on the ends of spaced and braced side members 1 forming a luffing jib carried by a tractor and the grab is operated by a hydraulic ram 13 secured to a member 16 joining the brackets 7 and pivoted about the same axis as the grab. As illustrated the jib 1 is luffed by a pair of hydraulic rams 6 and links 18 connect the jaws of the grab to the stub axles 17 supporting the member 16. Interengaging friction members 20, 22, Fig. 5, on the member 16 and on the jib may restrain pivotal movement of the grab. An additional set of controls for the tractor may be provided for operation from a rearwardly facing seat 24.
