Abstract

853,913. Transformers and inductors. SMIT & CO.'S TRANSFORMATORENFABRIEK N.V., W. July 4, 1958 [July 15, 1957], No. 21537/58. Class 38 (2). A high-voltage layer winding, e.g. in a transformer or choke, has one or more stress-distributing shields arranged between winding layers which are parallel connected, groups of such layers being connected in series. Three series connected groups are shown, each comprising twc layers 1, 2; 3, 4; 5, 6 in parallel. Electricallyconductive shields 7, 8 are provided between the layers in the first and last groups and are connected to the start and finish of the winding respectively at 9a and 9b. An additional shield may be provided between layers 3, 4. The pairs of layers may.be divided axially and cross-connected, in which case the shields may.also be divided, each half being connected to the appropriate cross-connecting link. Electrostatic rings 16, 17, 18 may be provided at both ends of each group of windings, at least one of each pair not being connected to the screen between them. They may embrace each pair of layers as shown, or there may be a pair of rings for each layer, in which case the space between the layers could form a cooling duct.
