Abstract
782,299. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 6, 1956 [April 22, 1955], No. 11713/55. Class 38 (2). A voltage transformer comprises a number of wound laminated core units 1 about each of which is wound a toroidal winding 2, these windings being joined in series by the connections 4 to form the whole high voltage winding. Each core unit is maintained at a static voltage which is appropriate to the voltage appearing across its respective winding, so that the necessary insulation between each core unit and its winding is reduced. A low voltage winding which links the core units is insulated from them by tubes 3, 6. Alternatively, the low voltage winding may also be formed from a number of sections carried by the core units. The core and its windings are insulated by tape or by encasement in moulded butyl rubber or cast resin.
