Abstract

853,475. Windscreen cleaners. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Dec. 27, 1956 [Dec. 27, 1955], No. 39331/56. Class 138(1). A windscreen wiper arm, particularly for use on panoramic windscreens, is pivoted for universal movement under the influence of cams which impart a complex rocking motion during the oscillation of the arm. As shown, the arm comprises an inner section 8 mounted on operating shaft 7 and an outer wiper-carrying section 11 which has a channelled cam 13, the two sections being interconnected by clevis 12 and stub shaft 15. When the arm moves in accordance with the contour of the windscreen, laterally offset lobes 18, 19 rotate about axis 20 and react upon shelf 17 to impart a rocking motion to section 11 about shaft 15 and thus hold the wiper normal to the screen. Tension spring 23 connects sections 8, 11 and applies wiping pressure to the wiping blade. In two modifications (a) the inner section may be formed with a cam for co-operating with a supporting shelf on the outer section, and (b) the supporting shelf may overly the cam lobes, Figs. 6-8 (not shown).
