Abstract

859,052. Windscreen cleaners. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. April 23, 1957 [April 19, 1956], No. 12944/57. Class 138(1). A vehicle having a curved windscreen with a wide fronted area flanked by lateral areas joined to it by crest areas of sharper curvature, is provided with a cleaner for wiping all three areas comprising three wiper blades mounted to oscillate in substantially parallel relation, the travel of the central blade being in a path that intersects the paths of travel of the two other blades above and below the line of sight through the windscreen. As shown in Fig. 2 the wipers are driven from a common motor 5 through cable and pulley connections. Preferably pulley 13 and 14 on the shaft of the central wiper 19 are smaller than pulleys 11 and 17 on the shafts 8 and 9 respectively of wipers 191 and 19<SP>11</SP> so that the central wiper operates through a greater arc and at greater speed than the other two. The outer wipers are mounted on shafts journalled adjacent the crest areas and the blades are mounted on a section 20<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, rotatable about a stub shaft 2011, the blade being maintained normal to the windscreen by cam 22 and follower 21. Fig. 3 shows the wiped areas of the windscreen, areas 24 and 24<SP>1</SP> being wiped twice during each stroke of the wiper blades. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), two wipers may replace the single wiper operating on the frontal area of the windscreen and the areas of overlap of the blades may provide one continuous, doubly wiped area across the screen.
