Relates to a windshield wiper for use on a curved surface wherein the wiper arm is automatically rocked about a mounting pivot therefor extending lengthwise of the arm in such a manner that a cross-section of the wiper blade is maintained substantially normal to the windshield surface as the arm is oscillated thereover. The wiper arm, Fig. 1, comprises a section 12<SP>1</SP> secured to an oscillatable and axially slidable actuating shaft 19, a section 12<SP>11</SP> rockable on a pin 30 fixed to the section 12<SP>1</SP>, and an outer blade carrying section 13 pivoted to the section 1211. A follower 31 on the section 12<SP>11</SP> is held in contact with a fixed cam 32 by a spring 34 acting on the shaft 19. As the arm is oscillated the cam and follower will cause the arm 1211, 13 to reck on its axis. Instead of a spring to maintain contact between the cam and follower, the cam may be double-sided and engaged by a forked follower on the rockable section, as described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown). In the embodiment of Figs. 6 and 7 the rockable arm section 12b is fixed to a shaft 30b journalled in the section 12c secured to a hollow actuating shaft 19b, oscillated by a rocker arm 24b. Rotatable within the shaft 19b is a shaft 37 having fixed thereto a gear 35 which meshes with a gear 36 fixed to the shaft 30b. The shaft 37 has secured to its lower end a gear 38 which meshes with a gear segment 32b journalled on the rocker arm where it connects with its driving link 25b. The gear 32b is secured to the link 25b so that as the link moves to the dotted position shown in Fig. 7, the rocker arm 24b will operate the shaft 19b and the gear 32b will rock the gear 38 and thus shafts 37 and 30b.
