Abstract
852,408. Cylindrical journal bearings. GLACIER METAL CO. Ltd. April 30, 1958 [May 21, 1957], No. 16181/57. Class 12 (1). In a plain bearing comprising an upper halfbearing 1 and lower half-bearing 2, an oil distribution groove 5, located mid-way between opposite axial edges, extends from the joint face B to a point A located approximately 45 degrees beyond the joint face C in the direction of rotation of the journal so that the main bearing surface from A to B, which is subjected to relatively high loading, is not interrupted by the groove. At A the groove 5 runs into a well 8 which extends through the whole thickness of the lower half-bearing 2 and is closed by the lower bearing housing 4. The well 8, in which dirt particles can accumulate, may be approximately elliptical or circular in cross-section. Oil is supplied to the groove 5 through radial holes 6 from a circumferential oil supply groove 7 formed in the upper bearing housing 3.
