Abstract

784,238. Bearings. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. May 17, 1956 [Feb. 17, 1955], No. 4829/55. Class 12 (1). Bearings for a shaft 11 comprise a journal bearing of the kind in which the bore profile is of spiral or similar form so that the clearance tapers progressively round the circumference and a thrust bearing comprising an annular collar 13, integral with the shaft 11, which runs between two washers 14, 15, each of which has a number of radial ridges separated by troughs. The washer 15 is movable towards the collar 13 under the action of oil pumped through a passage 24 to take up the clearance at high speeds. Bores 26 in the washer 15 feed oil to lubricate the bearing surface. The invention is applied to the bearings of a milling machine.
