Abstract
680,478. Lubricating bearings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 13, 1950 [April 19, 1949], No. 9131/50. Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii). A bearing for rotatably supporting a shaft 3, comprises a sleeve 11 having two diametrically opposite lubricant feeding openings 16 in which lubricant absorbent material 18 is disposed for feeding lubricant to the journal surface, oppositely cut spiral grooves 23, 24 being provided in the journal surface for feeding the lubricant toward the ends of the bearing. Annular grooves 21, 22 communicate with the outer ends of the grooves 23, 24 respectively. Rings of lubricant absorbent material 19, 20 are disposed in a reservoir 15, and feed lubricant to the wicks 18. End thrust washers 29, 34 and oil throwing members 31, 36 are provided. A plurality of closely spaced spiral grooves 44, 45, Fig. 3, may be provided, or two opposed sets of grooves of the type shown in Specification 658,405 may be utilized.
