Abstract

721,658. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 5, 1953 [Dec. 19, 1952], No. 32261/52. Class 12 (1). A bearing assemblage comprises a plain bearing of metal incorporating poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene and a journal having a coating of lead. The journal 1, Fig. 1, is case-hardened and provided with a coating 2 of lead by electro-deposition to co-act with a porous copper sleeve 3 impregnated with poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene. Alternatively, a steel sleeve 4 on the journal, Fig. 3, is coated with lead 5 and co-operates with a metal bearing sleeve 6 incorporating poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene. In a further modification a bearing unit is encased in a housing sleeve 9, Fig. 5, and felt seals 10, retained by rings 11, are provided at the, ends thereof.
