Abstract

756,985. Lubricating cylindrical journal bearings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 22, 1955 [March 22, 1954], No. 8342/54. Classes 12 (1) and 12 (3). In a shaft bearing assembly comprising a housing 1, a cylindrical bearing 3 and a lubricant pad 5 resiliently held in contact with the shaft by a spring 9, one end of the pad is arranged so that it does not extend below the bearing surface in order to allow easy introduction of the shaft into the bearing. The pad has a shoulder which rests on a housing portion 12 and a shoulder at the opposite end which rests on the outer surface 13 of the bearing so that the pad is inclined when the shaft is not in position. Lubricant is supplied through a bore 14 to retaining material 15 which is held in the housing by a washer 16 and sprung retaining cap 17.
