Abstract
744,287. Connecting-rod bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 20, 1954 [Dec. 14, 1953], No. 34736/53. Class 12 (1). A connecting-rod big-end bearing comprises a shallow tapered recess 4, of less width than that of the bearing, disposed in advance of the top dead-centre region A which is subject to heavy load during a portion of the cycle, and passage means arranged so that during that portion of the cycle the recess 4 is placed in communication with an oil feed-hole 2 in the crank-pin 1. The passage means may comprise slots 9, 10 in the bearing halves 3, 5, a groove 11 in the back of the cap half bearing 5 and a shallow recess 6 in the half bearing 5 adjacent the tapered recess 4. Alternatively the passage means comprise a groove 11a, Figs. 6 and 7, in the bearing face of the cap half bearing 5 communicating at one end with a groove 9a, Fig. 4, in the bearing surface of the rod half bearing 4 and at the other end with recesses 6, 4 in the bearing halves.
