984,230. Bearings, lubricating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 16, 1961 [Sept. 6, 1960], No. 29562/61. Heading F2A. A lubricated bearing comprises a permeable sleeve 20 of sintered metal around which is concentrically located a lubricant reservoir 25. Lubricant passes through the porous bearing sleeve 20 by capillary action and the rate of lubricant flow is controlled by the permeability of the sintered metal which is arranged to be within the following range per inch of sleeve inside diameter. Uniform distribution of lubricant over the whole bearing surface of the bore 21 is facilitated by the provision of longitudinal slots 60 which terminate in countersunk recesses 36 and 37 at each end of the bore. Means are described for determining the permeability of sleeves.
