Class 34(2) During operation of the drier shown opening of the cover 2 is prevented by the engagement of a rod 21 in an aperture formed in a cover hinge 22. Depression of a foot pedal 13 causes a spring 15 to snap over a toggle lever 11, 12 to apply a brake pad 17 to the underface of a drum drive pulley 6, to open the motor switch 20 and lower the rod 21 from the hinge. The pedal 13 cannot be raised to release the brake and close the switch unless the rod is able to re-enter the hinge aperture.
