Abstract

1,084,805. Spin driers SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 28, 1964 [May 31, 1963 ; No. 21825/63. Heading F4G. A spin-drier having the lid 34 connected by a Bowden cable 28 to a brake 2 interconnected with a switch 32 controlling the power supply to the drier motor, is characterized by a selfenergizing or servo-mechanism movable into an operative position on operation of the brake to increase the braking force and a latch device 36 for holding the lid in its closed position while the drum is rotating. The latch 36 is so connected to the mechanism that it does not release the lid until the mechanism moves out of its operative position consequent to cessation of drum rotation. The self-energizing mechanism comprises a toggle mechanism formed by an arm 21 pivotally mounted on a pin 22 having a shoe 23 and brake pad 27 hinged at 23a and urged towards a surface 19 of a brake drum 18 attached to the drive shaft by a spring 24 on a pin 25. The arm 21 is loaded by a spring 29 to the " on " position and held in the " off " position by withdrawal of the inner wire 30 of the Bowden cable.
