Abstract

1408719 Drying ROBERT THOMAS 21 Sept 1973 [30 Sept 1972] 44334/73 Heading F4G [Also in Division F2] A spin dryer comprises a movable cover 3, an electric switch 24 controlling energization of the drying drum motor a braking device comprising at least one brake band 13, and a safety device which prevents opening of the cover until the drum rotation is stopped. In operation, cover 3 is closed by depression of a tongue 7 and pawl 6 to remove a locking lug 8 from the path of an attachment 9 of a locking member 4. The latter is pivoted through a right-angle to lock the cover 3 and rotates a lever 10, connected thereto, through a shaft 5. Lever 10 engages a brake lever 23, which through a Bowden cable 25 releases brake band 12 and thereafter operates switch 24. To switch off the dryer locking member 4 is pivoted towards its starting position. The switch 24 is released after only a short pivoting movement as lever 23 is rotated by a spring 29 and cable 25. The slackening of cable 25 causes spring 29 to push forward end 28 of band 12 against the drum periphery the band being moved forward by the frictional contact with the drum. End 14 of the band is moved correspondingly, against the action of a spring 17, causing a locking lever 27 to pivot into the path of lever 10 preventing further rotation thereof and opening of the cover. When the drum has come to rest the force of spring 17 overcomes that of spring 29 so that the end 14 is drawn back into its guide 15 and levers 22, 23 pivot back into their initial positions. Lever 10 can then be rotated to allow the cover to be opened.
