Class 34(2) In order to raise the lid 2A of a spindrier 1 a lid holding arm 7 is swivelled from the lid thereby turning a rod 9 which effects, through interengagement of a cam 11 carried by the rod and a roller 12 depending from a lever 10, the actuation of the lever and hence the application of a spring-urged brake shoe 13 against the underside of a driving pulley 14. Simultaneously an arm 20, secured to the rod, allows a motor control switch 21 to open. The rod 9 passes through the lever 10, the brake shoe spring 19 being located between the latter and the arm 20. In a modified drier, the lid is fixed to the arm 7 and swivels therewith.
