849,548. Opening and cleaning fibres. DODD INVESTMENTS Ltd., YOUNG, R.C., and RUSCA, R.A. July 24, 1957 [Aug. 16, 1956], No. 23475/57. Class 120(1). A fibre cleaner comprises a toothed processing cylinder 20, Fig. 1, a cylinder 21 having rearwardly-inclined teeth and lower peripheral speed than cylinder 20 for combing and loosening fibres containing trash on cylinder 20, a doffing cylinder 22 having forwardly-inclined teeth and a lower peripheral speed than cylinder 20 for transferring to cylinder 20 fibres clinging to cylinder 21, the cylinders rotating in the directions shown, and grid bars 25 adjacent cylinder 20 through which trash is ejected. The embodiment shown in Fig. 1, is a cleaner of the type described in U.S.A. Specification 2,365,793, having a wall-like series of opener cylinders 10, 11, each opener cylinder being doffed by a processing cylinder 20. Trash ejected through grid bars 25 is removed by a conveyer screw 27. The cleaned fibres are removed from cylinder 20 by a doffing cylinder 28 and conveyed by air through a manifold 29. In a modification, Fig. 2, a first processing cylinder 50 is followed by a second processing cylinder 60 similarly provided with combing and doffing cylinders 61, 62 and grid bars 65 so arranged that bars 65 are presented with the surface of the layer of fibres opposite to that presented to the grid bars of cylinder 50.
